The HD 6XX is a warm, mid focused open back headphone that shares the same internals as the pricier HD650, and it has a long track record as a durable daily listen. The sound stays engaging on older or poorly recorded tracks, with an intimate presentation that still reveals plenty of detail. Comfort is generally good, though the clamp can feel firm at first and may need headband adjustment. The nonstandard connector makes mic add ons awkward, and replacement ear pads can be a meaningful future cost, making this a strong value if you want classic Sennheiser sound.
music listeners who want a first "real step" into the audiophile hobby because these have stayed in rotation for years with no degradation or issues reported after 6-7 years.
buyers comparing value to the HD650 because the HD6XX is described as having the same internals as the much more expensive HD650.
people who mainly listen to poorly recorded 80s/90s tracks because one owner says everything still sounds including badly recorded tracks on the HD6XX.
listeners who prioritize quality mids and a warmer sound because commenters describe the HD6XX as a warmer version of the HD600 that may make you "very happy" if you care about mids.
PC/console gamers who can work around separate mic/headphone inputs because one user used an Antlion ModMic with the HD6XX via separate PC ports, even though they ultimately chose wireless for convenience.
people who want to use a boom mic accessory like the V-Moda BoomPro because the headphone connector is not a standard 3.5mm jack, so that kind of mic can't be used as-is.
buyers who need easy gaming mic support on a single standard plug because one commenter says they had to use separate PC mic/headphone inputs (or adapters) and ended up switching to a wireless headset for ease of use.
headphone shoppers who are sensitive to clamp/fit discomfort because multiple comments note the fit can be more clampy and may require bending the headband to reduce the pressure.
people who expect to replace grills/parts if something breaks because there's a warning that there's no grill replacement available if you break it.
buyers who don't want ongoing maintenance costs because one commenter warns you may pay about 40% of the deal price to replace ear pads in a couple years.

If anybody has experience comparing these to other headphones, would you recommend anything else above these, in that sub-$250 price range? I'm considering getting new headphones and am wrestling with the idea of replacing these. I liked them but I sort of agree with some reviewers that they lack warmth and don't have enough bass...and I have almost no other headphone experience. This price is tempting.

but i am guessing you could also use a 3.5mm headphone and mic splitter/adapter to combine the headphones and mocmic into a single 3.5mm plug for something like a PS5 controller.
all that being said. i ended up selling that setup (6xx and modmic). went with a Steel Series Arctis 7+. works with both my PC and PS5. they sound great. sure the HD 6XX are technically better. but ease of use, software adjustments & the wireless ability all make the Steel Series a better choice for me (for gaming).
