Wish they had more interesting headphone offerings these days. My first good pair of headphones were the akg k7xx from mass drop.

HIGHLY recommend these if you're in the market. These are the same internals as the much more expensive ($450+) HD650 pair.

Bought these 6 years ago as my first real step into the audiophile hobby. Few thousand dollars later, these are still great headphones. Don't get me wrong, I like my Arya Stealths more, but the 6XX is still in rotation and I use it all the time to introduce others into the hobby!

Yeah I bought these like 6 or 7 years ago and they are my main headphones still, no degradation or issues at all. Some of the best you can do south of ~$300 dlls, I still have amazing time discovering new sounds in songs I've had for years.

I had HD600s until I screwed up (misdiagnosed the problem, opened one of the ear pieces, stored it for a year, lost ear piece(I think a niece or nephew took it)).

If anybody has experience comparing these to other headphones, would you recommend anything else above these, in that sub-$250 price range? I'm considering getting new headphones and am wrestling with the idea of replacing these. I liked them but I sort of agree with some reviewers that they lack warmth and don't have enough bass...and I have almost no other headphone experience. This price is tempting.

Is it worth upgrading from the HD 598 special edition? I've had them for 10 years and theyre running strong so I dont feel the need but, am I missing out?

the connector to the headphone is not standard 3.5mm jack. So I can't use something like the V-Moda Boompro microphone

I have them both (HD6XX and Arya Stealth) and I couldn't get rid of any of these two. I like that everything sounds including those badly recorded 80's 90's tracks on the HD6XX and I love the detail and soundstage on the Aryas.

i used to use these with an Antlon ModMic. my PC tower has separate headphone and mic inputs. i just used a cable sheath to have "1" cable to the PC ports.

but i am guessing you could also use a 3.5mm headphone and mic splitter/adapter to combine the headphones and mocmic into a single 3.5mm plug for something like a PS5 controller.

all that being said. i ended up selling that setup (6xx and modmic). went with a Steel Series Arctis 7+. works with both my PC and PS5. they sound great. sure the HD 6XX are technically better. but ease of use, software adjustments & the wireless ability all make the Steel Series a better choice for me (for gaming).

I mainly jump between my Aryas and R70x Refine, but I'll be damned if I said I don't like a more intimate soundstage of the HD6XX sometimes.
