The HD 6XX is a warm, mid focused open back headphone that shares the same internals as the pricier HD650, and it has a long track record as a durable daily listen. The sound stays engaging on older or poorly recorded tracks, with an intimate presentation that still reveals plenty of detail. Comfort is generally good, though the clamp can feel firm at first and may need headband adjustment. The nonstandard connector makes mic add ons awkward, and replacement ear pads can be a meaningful future cost, making this a strong value if you want classic Sennheiser sound.
The HD 6XX uses the same internals as the much more expensive HD650, which supports a value-focused upgrade path.
Long-term ownership reports no degradation or issues after six to seven years while keeping the headphones in regular rotation.
The HD 6XX can sound good even with poorly recorded 80s and 90s tracks, which helps with everyday listening.
The HD 6XX can deliver a more intimate soundstage than other headphones during switching comparisons.
The headphone connector is not a standard 3.5mm jack, which limits compatibility with accessories like the V-Moda BoomPro mic.
The headphones may feel more clampy than expected, and fit adjustments like bending the headband may be needed.
Ear pads reportedly may require replacement in a couple of years, which can add a significant extra cost.
No grill replacement is available if the grill breaks, which reduces repair options for physical damage.

If anybody has experience comparing these to other headphones, would you recommend anything else above these, in that sub-$250 price range? I'm considering getting new headphones and am wrestling with the idea of replacing these. I liked them but I sort of agree with some reviewers that they lack warmth and don't have enough bass...and I have almost no other headphone experience. This price is tempting.

but i am guessing you could also use a 3.5mm headphone and mic splitter/adapter to combine the headphones and mocmic into a single 3.5mm plug for something like a PS5 controller.
all that being said. i ended up selling that setup (6xx and modmic). went with a Steel Series Arctis 7+. works with both my PC and PS5. they sound great. sure the HD 6XX are technically better. but ease of use, software adjustments & the wireless ability all make the Steel Series a better choice for me (for gaming).
