Community Reviews

This Cable Matters USB4 cable is aimed at buyers who need certified 80Gbps bandwidth in a 4.9 foot length, with 240W charging and Thunderbolt 5 and 4 compatibility. The main appeal is the combination of speed, power, and certification in a longer cable, which is harder to find at lower prices. It also has a solid brand reputation in the thread. The main caveat is price, since similar cables can cost less if you only need 40Gbps or can accept a shorter, less certified option. A practical pick when the full spec matters.

  • people who specifically need an 80Gbps USB4/Thunderbolt-compatible cable for high-bandwidth use because the main thing you're paying for here is the 80Gbps bandwidth (not just the 240W power delivery).

  • buyers comparing certified 80Gbps/240W options because community members say Cable Matters is a good brand/product and that this deal is essentially the same specs as a Kensington USB-IF certified cable for less.

  • shoppers who want a shorter ~4ft run and are okay not verifying transfer speed because one commenter said they paid about $10 for a ~4ft option and it's been working out for them (though they haven't tested actual transfer speed).

  • people who need a cable that will reliably last because at least one buyer reported buying two and having one fail after 3 months, saying they'll never buy this brand again.

  • buyers who expect good support if something goes wrong because another commenter said they had failing cables and "bad customer service" with Cable Matters.

  • buyers who are looking for the "best" cable based on reviews because one commenter claimed Cable Matters cables are terrible and questioned why reviewers call them the best.

  • people who only need 40Gbps while still wanting 240W because commenters note that if you only need 40Gbps with 240W, you can find those cables for about half the price.

  • buyers trying to match a specific long-length 80Gbps spec because one commenter said a longer 80Gbps-capable option isn't a "better option" if the alternative doesn't actually offer 80Gbps at the needed length (they cited an alternative that tops out at 20Gbps at 5ft).

update: Nevermind, they don't make this spec. I misread

At this price, the LTT TrueSpec cable might be a better option

  1. They don't make a 40gbps 5ft speed cable much less an 80gbps one
  2. Their 5ft cable is only 20gbps
  3. It's $27+shipping, so closer to $40 for most folks
...in other words, not a 'better option' if you want a longer 80gbps capable cable.

Not to mention LTT's cables are not certified while this Cable Matters one is
