This is simply unwanted unsold craftsmen junk marketed as a "set" for premium pricing.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank kyden99

This is really only useful if you want the tool box.

This goes on sale for $84 quite often and has more useful sockets.

I generally agree with other posters that this is marked up by the toolbox -- which has relatively low value to any serious DIYer, as they are likely to have already optimized their tool storage solutions. That being said, I have a couple of Craftsman's low profile ratchets and have found them to be excellent. The detente release, slim head, and 72-teeth make these ratchets a pretty frequent flyer in my garage workflow.

So, if you're just starting your tool collection and would benefit from the toolbox, I'd say this is a decent deal!

Those toolboxes are super handy. Everyone always talks about ways they wished the harbor freight mini toolboxes were improved and if they listened to them it would basically be this box. Slightly larger than a mini toolbox with a latch and handle. Not worth $80, but if they sold just the box for like $30-$40. I might buy a couple. I really wish tool companies would go back to putting some of their high end sets in metal boxes like these with foam instead of blow molded plastic.

I say it is a good deal. I bought this toolbox (with tools) for $76 (discount) on sale at Lowes two years ago. I leave it in my trunk of my car for emergencies or when I go to PickNPull.
Toolbox (no tools) Lowes $73 https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMA...1001107526
Bigbagmart has this toolbox for $59 (no tools) https://bigbigmart.com/product/cr...-tool-box/

Meh, if you are in the market to buy a set like this, might as well spend another $40 or $50 to get the 230-ish piece ones that include the 1/2" drive (I've seen posts here on SD when they also go on sale). 3/8" and 1/2" will be used the most, 1/4" less so, for the general public at least.

I bought it last year from Ace at this price because I liked the box, partly due to the extra space in it and because the drawers keep things organized and accessible. I threw away the crappy plastic organizer trays, added some rails for the metric sockets, relocated the SAE sockets to a box in my garage where they've sat untouched ever since, and added some 1/2" sockets, pliers, wrenches, and various other tools. The box now lives in my truck and I'm happy with the purchase. The included 1/4" and 3/8" sockets and ratchets have been just fine, and yes I've gotten a fair amount of use out of them, although I do use an old Stanley ratchet more.

As an alternative, you can get Amazon 201-piece tool set for $54. I don't see much difference in quality between them (not anymore).

The toolbox is great, but the set is pretty incomplete, and buying individual pieces to make it a more competent set is prohibitively expensive. So ya, buy the more complete version of this set.

Are Craftsman tools still considered excellent as they were in the past?

Depends how far back, black and decker bought them out about 10 years ago. But even before that they started to switch some tools to china. I still have some tools before they did that.
