Typically items are placed on clearance before changes are made to the bay where the product is located. The ending cent of the price should represent how many weeks are left before the product is priced at a penny and removed from the salesfloor. The lowest marked price you should see on the shelf will end in $xx.x2.
The Makita bays are being reset next week and this combo kit is most likely being removed from most store sets.

FYI, this the older XT288T combo with the XDT19Z impact driver and XPH14Z drill. If you can find it at this price, get it.

If you are looking for the latest/greatest that has the XDT20Z impact driver (aka TD173D) you need to look for the XT297T combo.

This is 100% accurate. I own many Makita products, including this drill, and it's been a workhorse. Makita products are not "throwawayable". Sure, they may not have the latest cutting edge tech or the flashy marketing of TTI, but they are dead reliable, long lasting and durable. If you can find this set for less then $200, buy it.

I am not a tradesman, actually retired. However, I have many XLT tools acquired in the last dozen years or so. My experience: from the dozen or so Makita LXT batteries that I have used, only 1 has failed and I can fix it, as the battery pack still holds a charge. Of the LXT tools that I own, from chainsaw to impact wrench to compound miter saw, et al, NOT A SINGLE ONE has failed.

That's my personal experience.

I have the Makita warehouse half an hour away. You can take in any broken tool and they should be able to repair it. They offered to repair my metal cutting Skill saw for no more than 120. I had two 5ah batteries fail(flashing charger). Batteries looked brand new. Not sure what the issue was. Thought they'd repair it. I was just passed my 2 year warranty. They said they couldn't repair batteries. The guy was nice enough and hooked me up with 2 new batteries to replace the 2 failed ones. I've always been a Makita guy. Like steel rain said. These aren't throw away tools. They last forever. I use mine hard and a lot and have had my set for 10 years. Almost every single battery is still good. No matter how innovative Milwaukee is I'll never switch over.
