I found a very similar looking, off-brand enameled cast iron dutch oven in a thrift store (same exact color). I bought it to see what this Le Cruset business was all about. It has transformed my cooking. On busy work nights, I use it to brown some chicken or pork and then thow in some vegetables, a little seasoning and soup stock, and transfer it to the oven. Less than an hour later it's an effortlessly delicous, homecooked dinner. Assuming this version doesn't give you cancer or anything, it looks like a similarly low-cost entry for anyone curious about this deservedly popular cooking trend.

And they really are beautiful. I don't mind leaving it out on my stove top after cleaning.

ETA: but lose that ridiculous clown hat oven mitt. It demeans both cook and cooking vessel alike. laugh out loud

I bought a similar lower cost Dutch oven. Nuovva 5qt.
I also have a nicer Chantal Dutch oven, slightly bigger.

I can tell you the heat retention is much better on the nicer brand. I made sourdough at the same time in 2 separate ovens and the cheaper one cooled off much quicker than the Chantal.

Thats probably the diet thing i noticed.
