HDMI ports only support 20gbs vs 40gbs on the Onkyo rz30 and other models. Do I stand correct on this assumption? HDMI 2.1 vs hdmi 2.1a? If so I think technology has surpassed since 2020 release

You'd be mostly buying a $110 Aventage badge.

Slightly out my budget, this system is going in a sunroom so it will only get limited use, also will be 3rd avr in the house with main avr being cx-a5200

This thing is massive. You need to have TV connected for most settings. The On-Screen Menu looks like an early version of DOS. I returned mine.

Great receiver. I have it and recommend it. That's a pretty good price for a new one.

A Yamaha Aventage without full pre-outs? You've got to be kidding me! My older Aventage has every connection you could ever want.

4k 120hz passthrough is the only sell and it lacks because the hdmi only supports 24gbs vs the 40gbs on other models. Time for a refresh and get rid of the cyclopse just my opinion of course but it's still a lot of money when the Onkyo rz30 goes for 700 many times and has direc but lacks the build quality of the Yamaha. Hard to find the perfect fit for under $700

I've had this exact model for well over a year, used mostly for stereo listening with B&W 603 S3 towers and an old-but-mighty Velodyne 12" powered sub. Love how clean it sounds, and the build quality is excellent. Plenty of clean power, with THD at 0.06%. The remote feels heavy and substantial. Compared to non-Aventage models, it definitely has bigger/more robust caps and a 384kHz/32-bit Burr-Brown DAC. I still have no idea how the whole "Scenes" thing works, but I can't see any reason for it for my listening. And yes, the thing is ugly as sin, but from a pure performance perspective, you'd have to spend a LOT more to get something audibly superior.
