The edges of these lids eventually crack and split. Not long term durable

How does that happen, is it because it's used in baking?

Not sure didn't use them to bake only top rack dishwasher at most. Rubbermaid Brilliance series haven't failed yet and it has a double hinge design. The lids on this anchor hocking ones are just not thick enough I've had the pyrex ones not split at the edge so it comes down to the plastic they use.
