50/50 chance this buys you a $700 paperweight when the amp fails within the next 2 years. Klipsch is releasing new versions of these, the sevens and fives (albeit at higher prices than the originals) that supposedly have better internals to hopefully fix these problems

The failure of the amp is a major concern. It's well documented. What about adding an extended warranty through adorama? 4 years for $160?
This. Get the RP-500m or RP-600m and your own amp

Probably a dumb question, but is there anyway to implement these to work with my existing 3.1 home theater system if i don't want to run wires to rear bookshelves?

Warranty is only 1 year 😕
Just use a credit card that doubles the warranty.
Now you have 2 years, but the 2nd year would likely be a refund only not repair.

The Nines are much more able to run as 2.0 with much more bass ability and ability to fill a larger space with higher playback levels.
Plus they measure much better objectively out of the box. If one has PEQ and good ability to implement a EQ based of the published spinormas then the RP series can typically be made objectively very equal to the Nines. (the Nines can also be made even more 'accurate' with some added external PEQ as well)
All in all a handful of this and handful of that.

If I was doing 2.1 myself I'd do the RP-500m II and a nice sub coupled with an amp that has good PEQ features or an amp+ a separate PEQ. Getting that right will be a bit overly complex for many.

If there are widespread problems I hope Klipsch does indeed fix them for the new version with the much higher price tag.
But why would these become paper weights if the amp fails?
It is not rocket science to buy a replacement amp for a couple hundred and swap it in. Sure not ideal but not dead in the water.

Check your credit card for extended warranty. I know some Citibank credit cards offer 2 extra year AFTER manufacturer's warranty ends.

Should be 2 years according to Klipsch website. Unless I am missing something.

Great speakers, worth noting you cannot bypass that these are powered. Meaning you cannot hook them into an amplifier with other speakers, but you can add subwoofers with the sub out.

The problem with just using a different amp is: those internal amps are tuned and tweaked (EQed) to match those speakers. Note that there are no external binding posts, because these speakers don't have a conventional crossover.

100% agree, why risk the hassle of dead amps in an active speaker years later?

$700 can buy you a Wiim mini-amp ($300) which has tons of convenient connectivity options wired, wifi, or bluetooth, a remote control, and best of all, a subwoofer pre-out WITH a fully adjustable high pass filter. $400 can get you any number of excellent passive bookshelf speakers such as the Klipsch RP500M or 600M (if you know you like the Klipsch sound), or for example ELAC B6.2 or DB.53, or JBL 620---options are endless. OR, you could spend less on the mini-amp with $100-200 options from Ayima, Fosi, or SMSL and have more money to spend on the speakers, maybe even add a cheap starter sub like that Jamo on sale for $100 from Adorama which would be fine for nearfield music listening.

I keep hearing about these. Are these considered 'high end' and way better than something like a RP-600m ii?

Nope. Don't make the common rookie mistake of conflating price with actual sound quality---that's exactly what the sales/marketing dept wants you to do. They will sound more alike than different---the active speaker probably has extra 5--10Hz of mid-bass extension tops, which is irrelevant if you use the 600M with even a cheap $100 starter sub.

Yep... I won't ever spend big money like this on powered speakers again. My 'The Sevens' came defective (idle hiss and high idle power consumption), as good as they looked/sounded.
I ended up returning them and got RP-600M II s instead, and those are powered by as SMSL SA300 which does everything The Sevens did and more. These The [Fives/SevensNines] are kind of notorious for short lived internal amps, which is ridiculous considering their price.
