$1000 for a watch? On sale for $450???, still rather get a apple or Samsung Smart watch. Prices are getting crazy
Garmin's are very different from apple or Samsung. They lack some smart features but the battery life is amazing and they are great for tracking activities.

You are not the target audience for this then. Garmin has far better metrics, structured workouts, recovery insights, and more reliable GPS for several types of workout along with workout editing to track specific metrics such as heart rate zones, running zones, etc., route creating and uploading from Strava, and so much more. Definitely not the same.

When I read Garmin and watch, it made me think about wandering around large European cities. How COOL, to be able to have a map on your wrist? Instead of walking around like a dork with your phone out 24/7? No such thing yet??

Got the Fenix 7X from Bass Proshops for $50 more. I don't mind this one but the white isn't my cup of tea.

If you want to take care of your wearable, buy the brands you mentioned. If you want your wearable to take care of you, then buy Garmin. 😉

The 51mm without DLC is 520USD, but it might not fit all wrists.
For me, the price difference is worth it just for the battery life increase (11 days always-on vs 6 days always-on)

For those who can afford this watch, the question is whether the marginal utility of all the "bells & whistles" justify it in comparison to other sports and fitness devices.

I bought the 51mm version of this watch. Some of the reasons that made this purchase worthwhile for me:
  1. Maps. After downloading the maps, the territory covered is AMAZING. Virtually every point in the U.S. is covered. So long as I am receiving a GPS signal and have battery charge, I can always navigate my way home.
  2. GPS coverage. Not only do I have a choice of multiple GPS systems, the GPS accuracy is phenomenal. My old Fenix 5X used to give wildly erratic readings whenever I was under the covered walkway of a nearby school. Not only does my EPIX Pro give rock solid readings under the walkway, it even manages to track my path while walking through the indoor shopping mall!
  3. Display. The 51mm AMOLED display is bright and vibrant. The 454x454 pixels render extremely fine text and images.
  4. Battery life. I have my watch face always on and use the GPS about an hour each day. I can go 7 to 10 days between recharges (I recharge the watch when it drops below 30%).
  5. Heart rate monitor. The 5th generation HR monitor is outstanding. I don't know how Garmin managed to make a device that can actually count my pulse from the back of my wrist. Much more accurate and much more sensitive than my old Fenix 5X.
  6. User Interface. Coming from the Garmin ecosystem, the UI is easy for me to use. Best in the business, AFAIK.
  7. Integration with other apps. My Ring security app works well with the EPIX Pro, the color image comes through clear enough for me to identify visitors at my front door.
I've had it for a little over one month. Lost 15 pounds so far. Gone from basically no exercise to 3 miles of walking every day. The incentive that the EPIX Pro has provided me to get into better shape has been more than enough to offset its purchase price. YMMV.

You left out the flashlight!! That's the GAME CHANGING feature. It sounds like a gimmick but once you have it, you cant live without it. I turn it on when I go running at night or even when i'm cross the street in the evening so cars can see me better
