This Rubbermaid gallon pitcher stands out as a low cost, leak resistant container for mixing drinks and storing liquids or dry goods. The seal can hold well, it works for powdered drinks, and the size is handy for fridge storage, pantry staples, or even rice and beans. The main drawback is the lid, which can sit crooked, misalign the spout, or spill if it is not sealed just right. The clear plastic can also absorb color and, with warm contents, may pick up flavors. A practical pick if the lid quirks are acceptable.

I doubt it, all of these rubbermaid clear containers absorb colors and flavors of anything warm. At best they are good for water.

Or just buy a gallon of milk, consume it, then wash it. Viola, one gallon container.

I mean you would think that a billion dollar corporation that specializes in this type of product would've mastered lids by 2026 but I guess not lol
...and a billion dollar company that likely gives mfg'ing to the lowest bidder. This week it's China, last week it was Vietnam.

No way this thing was ever $20, I mean it does what it's supposed to do, but if ever $20 then we're all so screwed.
I appreciate you for echoing my inner monologue seeing this on the front page.

I bought one of these for like $1-2 a few years back. They are TERRIBLE containers for liquid.

However, it is an EXCELLENT short-grain rice container.

I'm assuming this is using the same lid on the smaller 2qt version which I use every day. At first I hated the lid/spout because of a few reasons,

It doesn't always line up perfectly when you screw it shut, its usually a few degrees off center from where you expect it to be

It does randomly leak from time to time if you dont seal it all the way.

but the main thing is I guess to keep the lid slim they dont really have a spout, its just a flat piece of plastic that I guess channels the liquid from the opening. this along with no breathing hole leads to inconsistent pouring and spillage.

annoying but as I said I still use it as I needed something small that I could mix things in and store it in the fridge and this is pretty much the best thing they had at walmart at the time.
Is it airtight with all the channels and hinge?

I haven't really tested anything over than mixing powdered drinks in it but it seals well if you hold down the tab with your hands while you shake it, otherwise it will open and spill.

Thanks
BTW, this kind of container is also very good for storing flour, sugar, rice, etc.
Keeps moisture and bugs out.
