Almost a decent buy for the 4ah battery alone if you're already in the tool system.

One reviewer mentioned that the blade is on the right side of the saw body, which may make it hard to see the cutting line if you are used to that.

standard sidewinder saw, worm drive saw the blade is on the left side. Track saws also have the blade on the right.

The popular DeWalt dcs565 is a sidewinder but with blade on the left. I'm a newbie to circular saw, which side should I choose?

I had one of these for a month before selling it. With a proper blade depth, it was struggling to cut through 2x4s and even stopped half way through cuts. Skil needs to come out with a max power battery for it. I found it to be dangerous.

Good deal for limited use. I owned the drill/driver and impact driver too and found everything to be very underpowered. Skil 20v eco system is limited, if you buy into it look at the tools they offer.

I was thinking the same thing. I need a bigger battery for my light but I just can't pull the trigger for some reason.

I burnt my wired saw and as a man living a dangerous life without a saw, should I convince my wife to fund this saw or wait?

I think this is a rare 6-1/2 with the blade on the right side, as most are on the left. 7-1/4 standard blades are on the right mostly. It depends on your preference. I do feel left side is easier to see cuts. If you happen to DIY straight edge track out of plywood, then right side blade offers more surface area to glide and for stability, for right-handed peeps. Yeah, you don't want to be short power when cutting. Also, saw on few DIY vids, Dewalt seems to be preferred for cutting tools. I have Milwaukee M18 Fuel 6-1/2, its great, needed some fine adjusting, but no power issue.

I'm sure as you get deeper into woodworking, you will end up upgrading to Ryobi, Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, or luxury brands if you can afford them.

brushless design vs brushed design-which to pick?
Brushed motors use carbon/graphite fibers.. in a brush, to transfer electricity into the rotating armature (that wire wound slug) of the motor. The brush physically touches conductors on the armature while its spinning. This is a simple and cheap way to build a DC motor.. but it has issues.
Carbon isn't the best conductor.. it also requires direct contact between the brush and a moving part so wear is a reality. Decent brushed tools will even give you a spare set of brushes for when you eventually need to replace them.. if you don't lose them first. You can also run into problems if the motor is stopped while powered up.. like the brushes can burn out if your brushed tool gets stuck. E.g. ..if you're drilling through a board with a big 'hogging' hole bit and you hit something like a hard knot that the drill doesn't have enough power to get through.
Brushless motors are more efficient (better use of your battery, more power from a given motor mass), and provide better torque. They're also less prone to wear, requiring less maintenance.
The issue usually comes down to price. Brushless motors cost more to make. Because of that, and because they provide obvious advantages.. brushless tools tend to command a premium price over brushed alternatives. In general.. all things being equal, you'd want a brushless model if the price difference wasn't unreasonable and the better tool was affordable to you.
