This Ryobi electrostatic sprayer is mainly useful for light misting jobs like greenhouse plants, floor cleaner, suitcases, and some car detergent or exterior insect repellent. It can spread liquid well enough on branches and, in the fogger version, throw a mist and droplets a good distance. The big drawbacks are weak pressure, the need to keep it level, and a design that can leak, clog, or fail quickly. The electrostatic cling is described as ineffective, making it feel more like a basic mister than a true sprayer.

  • The sprayer can work for regular car washing and detergent application when it is kept level during use.

  • The sprayer can spread chemical around trees and bushes even though it has limited force for washing off.

  • Rinsing the nozzles after each use can help prevent clogging for extended use in some cases.

  • A related Ryobi fogger/mister version can spray insect repellent with mist and droplets reaching about 20 feet.

  • The sprayer can clog and stop working, even after cleaning the nozzles.

  • The sprayer can produce very low spray output and weak force that feels not ideal for washing a car.

  • The sprayer can fail quickly, including units that are DOA or only last a month or two.

  • The sprayer can leak due to a cheap plastic T connector, and it may require replacing it with a brass connector.

I have the fogger/mister version that I got free during covid when they produced too many. It works great. I use it to spray insect repellant on the exterior of my home during the summer months. It shoots a combo of mist and droplets. The droplets will go a good 20 feet.

One of the worst "tools" in the Ryobi line, complete POS. They have been trying to basically give these away for some time.
Is it worse then the first attempt?

The DID give these away right after covid turned out to be a nothing burger. I have 3 I got for free in my attic laugh out loud

They can be kinda fun as massively over-sized squirt guns for the kids though.

I bought one of these for less than $15 on clearance at home depot once. Haven't used it yet, but I figure I'll try to use it for spraying liquid fertilizer on my plants in the summer. I'll see how it goes.
You'd be better off spraying fungicide with this

I haven't gotten nothing to work against the pesky MN mosquitoes and now the Fargo area is anti spraying since they killed monarch butterflies a few years ago... You able to share some secrets please?

Just chiming in to repeat: this is trash and not worth wasting any amount of money on. There's 3 or 4 other, similar ryobi products which have been on clearance/woot for the last year or two. All trash. None are worth even the clearance price and you'll be annoyed wasting gas returning them.

They rush produced these during covid to 'fog' spaces with disinfectant...before they learned covid was airborn, not from surfaces. The electrostatic 'cling' that's supposed to adhere disinfectant to all surfaces does not work at all (electrically impossible) so you basically have a trash quality mister.

Works just fine. I have two of these. I use it regularly to wash the car, for applying car detergent.

Most people are angry because you have to keep it leveled for it to work.
Which is difficult to do in a lot of use cases depending where your target is.
nozzles will eventually clog, even after cleaning them

Hasn't so far. Been using them for 2+ years with the same purpose.
I rinse them after each use.
For 15$ you can't even get a manual pump, so they paid off so far.

Well, I initially had thoughts about getting one, modifying it for better flow, and then using it as a portable cooling spray at summer gatherings. But I watched some videos of it and the pump seems loud enough to be a buzz kill. Guess I'll wait for a deal on one of those misting fan things.
