obligatory, tp-link has horrible security practices and shouldn't be trusted as your firewall. The don't patch actively exploited bugs in even recently released hardware.

I have 2 sets of the 3-pack equivalents, and they've been super solid over the last couple of years. Never had to reboot, wireless mesh is stable once connected. Only downside is most of the more advanced setting is only on the phone app, you can't do much on the regular browser.

You are going to anger the China crowd if you start talking about that.

I used these for a couple years until today. They purpotedly support 200+ devices but when I hit 70+, the clients (except for tp-link smart devices) do not appear on the client list at all. I got some deco 7 pros and all my clients appear again. AXE5400s couldn't handle that many devices

In raw performance, i was never disappointed in tplink devices, but that's where the positive features stop. This is only a deal if its something you know youre going to have to replace in a year or two, because that's as long as you will be able to put up with their crappy apps, poor feature set, and lack of ongoing updates. For something that should last you at least 3-5 years (before wifi 8 comes out or whatever the next big performance jump is), it's hard to justify going with a lowest-cost offering when its not that much more to get a proper high quality setup from Ubiquiti, and it really isn't a lot more to learn or figure out.

TP Link does have poor support long term. Not sure about how true it is that they don't patch exploits in recently released hardware. From what I remember with an old TP-Link router, the support ended after 3 years which is laughably bad.

The problem with these routers is that there is limited open source firmware support out there. You are not going to get security patches after say 4-5 years of owning them. I know at that point, people either upgrade or don't even realize they are running insecure firmware. I have yet to hear about someone owning an old router whose bank account got wiped out because of it, but it's probably not the best idea to run an outdated router.

Unforutnatley, people think that buying a whole new router or router system is the answer, but the better option is to just buy hardware that is supported by OpenWrt, DD-WRT, Fresh Tomato, etc.

I'm running a near 8 year old Netgear with OpenWrt. My internet is 300Mbps dl/ 30Mbps up, so I'm good for now. But had I not had compatible router, I would have had to throw it away several years ago.

I've been on a single router for a long time and just upgraded to these for the mesh system. (I have the 3 pack) But these are great for larger homes and helps keep my wifi cameras connected outside. Previously they had a poor signal. I have one Deco downstairs, and the other 2 upstairs on different sides of the house. My router is downstairs.
I used one Deco near the PS5 upstairs because I can connect an ethernet cord from the Deco to the PS5. If I go directly from the router to the PS5 with a 75' ethernet cord I get 800Mbps. If I just use the Wifi I would get around 150 Mbps, but if I connect the upstairs Deco to the PS5, I get around 300 Mbps. So if you don't want a cord snaking through your house, the Deco to PS5 works great.
