It depends on what your wiring looks like behind that switch panel. If you have a hot AND neutral source behind the switch plus independent wires for the fan and light load then going with the Kasa is a no brainer imo. Unfortunately, many houses don't have that wiring scheme and the remote control you are looking at might be your best option.

Go with this. It's Alexa etc compatible and doesn't require batteries. No remote to lose. My opinion.

So I admittedly don't know much about these, but have a ceiling fan with a single wall switch that operates the light, and the fan speed is controlled by a pull cord (which is annoying as heck). So there's 1 hot wire that goes from switch to fan, and I do have a neutral. I'm assuming to use this I need to add a device to my fan to separate the power between light and fan? What's the best way to accomplish this? Possibly this answer would help others looking at a switch like this.

Side note, I'm currently starting to transition from the legacy Kasa switches (non-homekit) to Lutron Caseta Diva style so I can expand and not worry about wifi issues (which I don't have with about 15 current Kasa switches, but want to use HomeKit rather than just Alexa as their smart controls are not great). So Lutron-compatible solutions preferred if anyone has tips.

Lutron sells a Caseta fan controller:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutro.../308675064

Note that their fan control is for AC fans only, it won't work with DC fan motors, so you'll have to make that determination about your existing fan.

The Lutron device is fan only though, unlike the Kasa switch in this deal which is fan and light, so if your existing switch is in a single gang box, you'll have to swap that box for a 2 gang old work box to use the Lutron device. The existing light switch can be swapped for a Lutron Caseta switch (dimmer or on/off, in either their "classic" push button style or their newer Diva dimmer or Claro on/off in the more contemporary paddle style).

I have 2 gang boxes in all 4 of our bedrooms with a Lutron fan switch and dimmer in each box - the dimmers are nice (although not necessary, an on/off would work as well) in the bedrooms - I also have Pico remotes at each bedside table to be able to control both the fans and their light kits from bed. I installed overhead fans in all of our bedrooms where there weren't any overhead fixtures before, so just ran 3-wire non-metallic sheathed cable (aka often referred to by the name brand Romex) to each of the overhead locations, and swapped out the single gang light switches at the doorways for 2 gang "old work" boxes - the original single switches controlled wall outlets, very much the style for my house built in ~1963.

In either case for the Kasa switch or the Lutron switch, you'll need two switched hot wires at your fan, one going to the fan and another going to the light kit, and both of those switched hot wires going back to the switch box. I presonally would just pull another 2 wire cable from the existing switch box to the overhead fan box - a fairly easy task if you have attic access above the fan, a somewhat involved process if you don't have acces from above.

As always, don't follow advice from strangers on the internet, and call a qualified electrician if any of this makes you nervous 😄
