This Zephyrus G14 stands out as a rare 14 inch RTX 5080 gaming laptop, with the appeal centered on its compact form factor rather than raw desktop class performance. The 5080 and 5070 Ti versions are described as very close, but this model adds 16GB of VRAM and a larger SSD, which makes the price gap easier to justify. The main tradeoff is heat and power limits in the small chassis, with repeated concern that the GPU is power nerfed and may throttle under load. There are also reliability worries around Asus hardware and a few reports of crashes or Windows 11 related issues. It is a strong fit if portability matters most.

Be aware of random windows 11 updates, I bought an open box 5070ti last year, I upgraded the SSD and use G-helper and after a few months of used suddenly I got the black screen and random shut downs. After farther investigation and replacing the SSD I stopped all windows updates and everything is back to normal. I am considering changing to a different OS like Linux but is hard to get around Microsoft blockages. Check forum.level1techs.com and search for Linux on G14.

I am just going to guess the vast majority of people don't have their motherboards fail... those are very specific issues my man
I mean, in their defense the two desktop ones were bulldozer motherboards but nothing out of the ordinary was done with any of the devices, not even overclocked at all. The laptop failed within the first 6 months, they repaired it under warranty but sent it back without screwing the motherboard back down so all the parts were flopping around inside, they refused to send me parts either without sending the whole thing back lol (they don't even provide labels so it would be my cost to ship it back to them again)
These are the only computers that have ever even failed on me out of the dozens I've owned/built of various brands

I tried two of these laptops in the past couple years and didn't really like either of them.

The form factor IS nice, but the GPU is underpowered and even then, the heat is insane on them. When under load, the top of the base near the monitor (just above function keys) was so hot I felt like I'd burn my fingers.

It's a great concept and other ROG laptops are good, but the Zephyrus line oversells you on specs "Cool, a 5080!" but has trouble really delivering performance on par with something like a 5060 (or this was the case swapping the 50-'s to 30-'s and 40's). The thermals on them are also not useful.

This is a waste, that 5080 will throttle like crazy.

It is a waste. It isn't even a full powered 5080 and it throttles while barely out performing the 5070 Ti version. Look at the GPU comparisons with other laptops in the first link.

https://youtu.be/b32IpEkJZjg

Then look at this video in the 3 game comparison.

https://youtu.be/nmgwMNQXRZI

The 5070 Ti in this model is typically within 10 FPS of the 5080 in this model, yet it's at a minimum behind by 30+ FPS when compared to other models. Even more, many laptops have 5070 Ti models that are out performing the 5080 in the G14.

So, yes it is a waste and you're not getting anywhere near 5080 performance for the money.
