Bought this bag for $40 back in September for a trip to Peru. I only used it for traveling as a personal item, no hiking/trekking. It held up well and packed a lot. It was comfortable wearing through the airports and the compression straps helped keep the bag at personal item dimensions while being stuffed.

Two things that I didn't like about it: no laptop sleeve and no water bottle pocket.

I have this. One problem that I encountered was the "expanding" zipper got jammed with extra fabric one time then I was trying to collapse it. But some effort got it unstuck, and I have been happy with it since.

It is NOT super-durable, but for a weekend trip, it is perfectly fine, and it is good for the money. Yes, you can find better packs out there, but they cost more. This is a good budget brand.

I've been looking for a gym bag that doesn't cram everything together. This one seems to offer a nice square organizational space and might even fit in a standard locker. Would you recommend this for the gym bag use?

While you probably can get away with it most of the time, be aware the dimensions on this bag are technically over the limit as a personal item on some airlines. On strict budget airlines like Ryan Air in Europe, if you overload and they stop you and measure, they will happily charge you.

I received it and yes it's a nice bag but was buying for a Europe trip and will fly Ryanair so decided to send this back
