This ZenBook 14 stands out as a light 14 inch OLED ultrabook with a bright 500 nit display, strong travel friendly portability, and enough Intel Arc graphics for light gaming and editing. The metal chassis, vivid colors, and solid battery life make it appealing for work on the go. RAM is soldered, so upgrades are not an option, and the open box listings can arrive with dirt, missing chargers, or even BIOS locks that block changes. A better condition grade and a careful pickup check matter here.

  • The OLED display is described as bright with colors popping for work and editing use.

  • The chassis is described as metal, super light, and super thin for travel convenience.

  • The laptop's RAM is on-chip, which prevents upgrade attempts but keeps the configuration fixed.

  • Intel Arc graphics are described as capable enough for gaming while traveling.

  • Some "Excellent" open-box units can arrive with grimy oily keys, food crumbs, and missing accessories like the power adapter.

  • Password-protected BIOS and secure boot restrictions can prevent disabling secure boot or making BIOS changes for Linux.

  • Best Buy open-box grading can be inconsistent, with "Fair" arriving new and "Excellent" arriving heavily used.

  • Shipped open-box units can show major condition variance, including cigarette smoke odor, missing stickers, touchpad click issues, and reduced battery capacity.

it could be a buyer remorse, essentially new pc in an open box. but it could be anything.

This a really god deal, but I would go with the units in excellent condition for $40 more. laptops with these Intel chips are around $1k minimum. I have an old Lenovo X1 and might pull the trigger.

BB open box grading is a shot in the dark, got fair items that were new, as well as excellent items that look like they've been to hell and back.

Watch for password protected BIOS. I bought an open box from BB a while back. I was busy and traveling for work and didn't check that until after the 2 week return policy was over. Was planning on running Linux on it but can't because I can't disable secure boot or make any other changes to BIOS settings. Best Buy basically told me I was out of luck. Wouldn't help have ASUS fix it and wouldn't take it back.
wow I never thought of that when i purchased previous used laptops i purchased.

I assume you already researched googled, youtube university it?

The "Alt+R" Method (Most Effective):
Restart the laptop and press F2 to enter the BIOS.
When asked for a password, press Alt+R.
A "rescue password" screen will appear, showing a date.
Use another device to go to a BIOS master password generator site (e.g., bios-pw.org).
Enter the date shown on your screen (e.g., 2012-01-01) to generate a code.
Enter the generated code on your ASUS laptop.
Default Rescue Passwords: If the date method fails, try entering ALAA4ABA at the prompt.
Remove CMOS Battery: On some models, you can remove the bottom cover and disconnect the small CMOS battery from the motherboard for a few minutes to reset the BIOS settings.
Contact Support: If these methods do not work, you may need to contact ASUS Support or an authorized repair center to unlock the device.

thats what i'd start with at least.

Anyways thanks for the heads up on the advice.

I couldn't find one in Fair or Good condition, so I grabbed the Excellent one for $550. I did look at a Dell Plus at a similar price, and while it had more storage, the 268V CPU is tuned for battery life and isn't as strong for video or audio editing compared to the 255H. I also wasn't into the design, it had one fewer Thunderbolt port, and I preferred the OLED over the LED panel (personal preference). Since I'm mostly using it for editing and work, not really gaming (though it could handle some gaming), the Asus still made the most sense.

Thanks op. Been looking for a desktop but there's not much out there affordable because of ddr5 prices. I'll have to wait for when ddr6 comes out to get a decent deal. jk. Bit on this instead in xlt condition. After fn taxes, $554 went to $616. Anybody downgrading the os or upgrading to pro?

There was one "Excellent" condition near me that I went to pick up. Had a "2/24/26" refurbished sticker on the generic box from some central refurbishing location/business. It does indeed say "excellent condition". The computer itself looked okay with tons of grimy finger prints and oily stains on the keys, some food crumbs are in the seams. Looks like it could be cleaned off with some rubbing alcohol and a fresh microfiber cloth. No scratches anywhere and the screen looked fine other than having apparently been groped by someone eating fried chicken. But no power adapter or anything else in the box, just the computer. Pointed it out to the BestBuy dude and he tried to tell me that Excellent condition may also be missing accessories. He told me there was nothing he could do about it so I just returned it on the spot.

I ordered a couple to be delivered to me and I hope those turn out better.

I have the Intel Core Ultra 9 - 32GB RAM - 1TB SSD variant of this model that I got from about $750 off eBay. It's light and bright with great battery life. I just swapped out the drive, which was actually a very impressive Micron SSD, with a 2 TB drive. This laptop replaced my other ASUS (Q540) that was great because I could expand the RAM and it had an extra SSD slot but it was a little too large and heavy for my taste.
They make a quality laptop with nice screens and a good price. No complaints here.

He could have called his manager over and adjusted the price to Good or even Fair. I had that happend when I got a refurb at Best Buy and a bumper on the bottom was loose and flopping around.
