Bad price... you can get a refurbished grade A from ebay for roughly the same price as Good Condition. (And it comes with 2 year SquareTrade warranty). I was able to buy my Ally Z1E chip with 180 hours on it for $275 on ebay last week.

I love my 2023 ROG Ally Z1 Extreme! I built my own XG Mobile with a RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and I'm loving playing on my 3440x1440p 165Hz ultrawide monitor. If anyone is interested in building a similar setup, I still have a few XG boards left. You'll need an Nvidia GPU, a PSU, and the XG Mobile data cable. Just DM me if interested.

the lowest on ebay rn that actually turns on is a $350 one that has no SSD and account locked (per listing, not sure what that means). how did you get this $275 one?

You might find cheaper used unit on marketplace. With that said, this is still better than most handhelds for the price.

Just note 2 things: it had only 2/3 battery size compared to most other handhelds, and sd slot you should treat as non existent.

I bought one of the Z1E models from Best Buy in October last year for $400. It was like new, and the SD card slot worked. At least initially. I never even tried to use the SD card after the first week, then thought about trying it with an SD card from my Steam Deck. I wasn't shocked that the SD card reader had indeed died on me after maybe 30 hours of gaming. I loaded SteamOS 1-2 hours into using it, and decided that's the best OS for this handheld.

Fair warning; check your bumper switches to make sure they don't display a common sensitivity failure. It's board integrated and not replaceable without soldering. I managed to get the right switch semi-reliable after blowing contact cleaner into the switch repeatedly, but it will never be perfect.

That said, I was really happy with how the handheld played Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It's much more able to play high-end games than my Steam Deck OLED. I upgraded the battery in my Ally, and it made it considerably more usable as well. Overall, I like my Ally, but I can't recommend it to everybody. You need to be a tinkerer to get the most out of it.
