Yeah I did notice that after I commented I looked back. Wondering how the thermal foil thing on the inside of the Columbia actually has any impact or not.

Bear in mind that the outer fabric of the stretchdown jackets is pretty heavy/unpackable so you wouldn't necessarily want to use it in a situation where you really wanted high fill power anyway.
They're really comfortable so I think you can think of them as a good alternative to a ski parka or something for daily use but I don't think they're actually practical for hiking or stuff like that where you might want to take them off and put them in a pack.
Honestly they're so unpackable that I'm not sure there's even that much point being down rather than synthetic but I guess it does reduce the overall weight when you're wearing them and when they're on sale they're probably good for the price as long as you understand what you're actually getting.

Not a fan of Mountain Hardwear's matte "stretch" outer. It shows stains way too well. I have this version minus the hoodie. I have to wash it quite often. Even if I brush up against a car, all the road salt transfers and it's difficult to clean. This is opposed to their traditional polyester outer (like North Face)โ€ฆ that material is awesome; cleans well and still looks new after years of use. Just food for thought.

I have this jacket as well, in the olive green color. Love the style, but also agree with some of the other comments. It's definitely heavier and not as packable as many other down / puffy jackets. That being said, this is a great price if you like either of the colors. Would recommend as long as you don't care about packability. Also, fit is true to size.

I've never owned any of the Mountain Hardware stuff but from what I've read I thought they were supposed to be better quality than Columbia, is that not the case?
