I have both systems for 3-4 years and there is no comparison in quality.Arlos are in higher league by far in picture quality movement recognition and stability. Although their app and subscription is questionable.

The Eufy S3 Pro is my clear system of choice. You do pay more upfront, but the trade-off is absolutely worth it: significantly better AI for detecting unwanted alerts and the nighttime picture clarity that's honestly unbelievable, and zero subscription fees—ever (which I love)

do not buy arlo. their devices are not yours, you are buying into "everything is a service and you own nothing." these things are so intentionally handicapped if you do not pay a monthly fee. they should give the devices away free for how much the service costs yearly. the cameras are not better than other cameras on the market either. do yourself a favor and go with eufy or wyze or any other company without a monthly fee.

to the 3 people that downvoted, what do you work for arlo? (or paid to promote the brand perhaps?)

the fact is, what optical advantage arlo had, existed pre-2021. over the last few years most other brands have gotten much better about picture quality and detection. i own several systems. have an arlo pointed at a spot and an eufy pointed at the same spot. the eufy does a better job in that spot and doesn't have a monthly subscription cost. don't believe what was true in 2020 to be true in 2026. read some reviews, get some of the other brands from amazon so you can return them if you dont like the results. there are plenty of options made during the past 2 years that run laps around what the arlo offers in detection, quality, and overall cost.

I had Arlo for years and the constantly increasing subscription fees finally convinced me to switch to Eufy. Cameras paid for themselves in less than a year, the quality is better, and I have less privacy concerns with the local storage.

Strange people talking about problems with Arlo, but I've had no trouble with them. I have however looked at the Reddit subs for Wyze and Eufy when I was trying to decide which brand to buy and it seemed they were full of 99% problem posts with many saying that they're switching to another brand. Many of them said to use Arlo instead.

Same here. Wyze is also now quietly pushing customers towards their subscription model for "better security". I guess you can only lose money on hardware for so long.

When you say "their devices are not yours, everything is a service and you own nothing"... what are you talking about. I own three different brands of cameras and I'm pretty sure I bought Arlo and they are in fact, mine. And yes, I pay a monthly fee because it's worth it to me. Google just raised their subscription fee per month and it's the same as Arlo. Ring just moved some of their features to a la carte so you have to pay more, just not on paper. Except the Chinese brands, every company in this space is charging about the same for security features (minus Blink). I'm just confused by your statement.

All. May I recommend Lorex. They're a a bit higher-priced, but won't break your wallet. I outfitted my Church with 16 Lorex cameras with a mixed POE-based/NVR and WiFi-based setup. Lorex focuses on selling standalone cameras and their cams have"edge" AI detection (i.e. on-board) for people detection, unlike Wyze which requires video to be sent to Wyze for AI interpretation - this requires a LOT of data to be sent over your network. Note, Lorex does have a line of WiFi cameras called Lorex Cloud that's competes with Wyze (i.e. cloud based biz model), but you can skip those. Go for the Lorex Classic models that have on-board storage and allow for remote viewing thru their excellent app. That said, I've used Wyze for years and their cameras have on-board microSD storage and will, at minimum, record general motion events (i.e. no person, car, pet detection w/o a subscription). They're inexpensive, responsive, and visual fidelity is acceptable. Their app makes it a bit more cumbersome to view microSD-stored video compared to cloud-stored video if you don't have a Wyze cloud subscription, but that's an acceptable trade-off since viewing Wyze card-stored video is pretty speedy anyways.

Their latest cameras and doorbell cameras now have on-board AI computation. The old cameras (e.g. Wyze Cam OG) sent ALL video to Wyze for AI interpretation for detecting people, pets, cars, etc. This meant the camera sent a LOT of data. Edge-based AI computation eliminates this issue (e.g. Wyze Cam v4). Now, you don't NEED a sub with Wyze as you can view microSD card-stored video free and very quickly via the Wyze app, but you won't get people, car, pet detection without a sub. Free cloud storage has recording cooldown and video length limits, but there's no recording cooldown period or video recording length limit for video stored on SD-cards, but it does take a tad longer to poll, download, and view the video on your phone as opposed to cloud-stored video. Proof: Wyze Doorbell Cam v2.
