They're meant to be consumed for quick sugar without filling you up during high exertion exercise.

I consumed these when I used to play football and also when I was training for a marathon

Yeah, they're actually pretty good and the caffeine ones help. I wouldn't say they give me a boost of energy per se, but definitely keep me not crash.
