With the extra "free" battery you should be able to get this down to $97.37.

I'm on the fence about this one. I don't have any M12 tools at the moment but I've been wanting them for a while. I know most people would absolutely suggest the FUEL line models, and I would go for it too, but this particular drill doesn't seem too shabby based on everything I can see. Let's see what SD thinks.

M12 Subcompact (Drill/Driver) vs. M12 FUEL (Drill/Driver)
  • Both full metal chucks & brushless
  • 350 in-lbs vs. 400 in-lbs
  • 3/8" chuck vs. 1/2" chuck
  • <2lbs vs. 2.6lbs
  • 5.4" length vs. 6" length
The same sort of config with the FUEL version of this tool is ~$189 right now and looking at past SD listings, a kit with 3 batteries and the impact was $230. Either way this config ends up being about the half the cost.

Some more rambling I'll put down here so maybe someone more well informed will let me know. Personally with the work I'm expecting with a tool like this I can't imagine ever putting the 1/2" chuck to good use. I'd think to bring a bigger tool or get on the drill press.
I don't need an impact because impacts will destroy the things I need the M12 platform for (which is why I'm not out to get the bigger kit with one). Certainly nice to have... just don't need it.
I've also heard plenty enough about the FUEL line always being better, but there are some definite advantages to this Brushlesss Subcompact line, and at this price I'm not really convinced the FUEL kit is worth 2~2.5x more.

The 12V Fuel Driver / Drill Combo was $125 w/ hack last year, for those who are not in a rush.

Mine shows $149 with a free gift. The only gift is a 3rd battery which is 2.5 HO. This is a great entry point to M12. Milwaukee is continuing to improve and upgrade these M12 tools. Video reviews demonstrate the increased performance with the High Output batteries.

Be careful when doing the hack. In short, HD is banning accounts (and their entire address + any payment methods associated with that address) from making online orders if you do the hack. It's not consistent, it's not announced, it's not explained or warned or even justified -- but one day, you just get a message saying your payment method doesn't work. No matter which payment method you use. And now, you'll never be able to make an online order at HD again.

Proof? Happened to me.

Long story short -- brother did a hack over the summer for a M12 driver discount, did nothing else even remotely sketchy to trigger this reaction. Turns out, that's all it takes. Literally the next day after the return, the ban was in place. Spent hours on the phone with HD, they won't give a clear answer as to why. "We reserve the right to deny service to anyone for any reason at any time, and we don't have to explain why."

They did state that we "may make an online order, but can only do so in-store at the service desk, with Store Manager approval."

And they also said "any other HD customers at that address are also banned from making online purchases, as well as any payment methods they used - regardless of the address they ship to"

I can't make orders. Dad who is a part of a construction firm can't make orders. The credit card that he used with the firm to order supplies (had them shipped to the house one time since the job was near us + the site was a disaster for deliveries) can't be used at HD.com anymore, which utterly infuriated the construction firm as they had to scramble to get another CC for purchases.

Thankfully, they were just as cryptic with the firm, so my Dad was never pinpointed as possibly being the source of this. Gotta love nonexistent job protections in the USA.

Through online research, talking to others, etc -- we learned that it was most likely the hack. Are we 100% sure? Nope. Does it make sense for HD to do this? Not really. But they are. Proceed with caution.

(My HD orders have dropped significantly. From a few items per month -- depending on what was on sale -- to just two orders, since this all took place. Doesn't help that the nearest store is over 45 minutes away. We might even switch tool brands to something that's not primarily sold by HD, since it's now more challenging to get replacement batteries and other supplies quickly.)

Yes, the banning is real, just as he describes. Happened to me a few months ago, after a 'hack' return.

It happen to me as well. I did a hack and next thing I know I can't make a purchase with any of my 3 CC. The only way I can place an order is by guest checkout and using PayPal/Apple Pay to place the order. I can still order stuff for delivery but I can no longer log into my Pro account.

I've personally taken advantage of about 4 or 5 of these hacks in the past.
I just can't wrap my head around why Home Depot would "ban" customers for taking advantage of their own weird bundle returns policy that their pricing system allows. If they don't like people taking advantage of it, why not just adjust the pricing system?
I used the crap out of the Lowe's and Staples coupon code generators back in the day. I spent a ton of money at both of those places, they obviously realized people were taking advantage of their coupon codes so they stopped them. Since they stopped about 5yrs ago, I've probably spent about $200 at Lowe's and $0 at staples. As consumers we luckily still have a couple choices on where we spend our money, they're dwindling every year, but we still usually have choices. If Home Depot bans you for doing something that their current pricing and return system currently allows, screw them, go spend your hard earned Money at the local lumberyard, Hardware store, harbor freight, Menards, or Lowe's. Money talks.
As far as I'm concerned, if they don't want people doing this, change your system and don't allow it.

Great deal if you are wanting to start with the M12 platform. Frankly if you are a homeowner, this platform will do ALMOST everything you want. I am a DeWalt fanboy for heavy duty tools ranging from snow blower to grinders, blowers table saws.

I got started on M12 for use in and on my travel trailer. the smaller footprint and ability to get into places the DeWalt won't go is the big draw for me. I frankly have the brushed tools which in some cases are still preferred by pros who use them. The fuel tools are nice but the same tool in old brushed versions are usually a good 50 bucks less and often as good for most things. Lots of good comparison videos out there.

If you can get this for 97 bucks great start...
