I have one of these and didnt use it for a while (while organizing my "nerd nook") and now the thing wont even turn on. Tried different cables, reached out to sunlu, no response. I had heard they were solid but my experience is subpar.

The only thing I know about 3d printing is get from the 5th grader after school (loves it). Is this something they could use? (Is this for only certain types of spools ? Using it or not using - in an elementary school setting does it matter ... vs more serious parts making)?

The purpose of a filament dryer is to dry filament. Certain filaments attract moisture and when going through the extrusion process, the moisture is heated and turned to gas and "pops" the surface of the filament as it escapes. This leads to ugly "zits" on prints. PETG is notorious for this. PLA doesn't attract moisture as much.

If you keep your filament in sealed bags with desiccant, you most likely won't need this. If you live in a high humidity area, you will need one eventually.

I'd get the SH03 for $88 from aliexpress over this. It can do 85 degrees for things like nylon PA6 etc, has independent heated sections and auto drying

Anyone have a gauge of how loud this one is? I just got a creality single dryer, and it is too loud for my house.

I have one of these bad boys and it works phenomenal. I did some testing with old PLA and PETG that was left out when I first got it. I weighed my filament spools before and after drying. It works, brought the spools down a few grams from water weight and they print excellent. I advise any 3d printer to get a dryer, and this 4 spool one has been one of my favorite tools since I started 3.5 years ago.
I also modified mine slightly as the release knob is really short and I have it high up. I printed a small set of easy release knobs for dryer and they work great. Give it a shot!

https://www.mytechfun.com/filament-dryers says 45 db at ~18 inches, compared to 49 for a creality. 10 db is half the volume, so about 65% quieter I think?

I have a few dryers and this is pretty quiet. Nothing scientific, but just to my ears. I have two of them, but haven't used them much recently as it's pretty dry by me in the winter and when opening PETG from the package I usually dry it in one of my other dryers prior to putting it in my AMS.

Just keep in mind, if you have both PLA and PETG within the same AMS, you should set your dryer on PLA temps or you can ruin your PLA if temps are too high.

EDIT: I'm a moron. I thought this deal was for the AMS Heater. I do own the S4 as well and It does seem quieter than the Creality

Is this even the legit Sunlu page? There is another on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FVLK8TZW

Even if a few dollars off, might be worth confirming that it is a good deal.
