The problem with these lights isn't the LED. Even the cheapest LEDs will last years. The issue is the battery, which gets charged and discharged daily. And often not fully discharged, which causes a memory effect in older NiCd batteries. That's what my cheap dollar store lights use. Even cheaper NiMH batteries can reach their recharge cycle limit in less than a year. I assume these use high quality batteries. And ideally, make the battery easily replaceable.
