PSA - Hard finding decent and cheap 4TB drive. Most are $120-160. I needed one desperately for 1 of 4 drives that crashed in my ds920. They're all between 10-13 years old and didn't want to wait too long just in case another one bites the dust.

Hate how server farms have bought out all the hard drives for 2026. Hope OP gets his NAS back up and running. Took me weeks and multiple orders to get my WD drives.

Thanks... It's been down for 5 days and was on the verge of spending 150 until I saw this pop up ship and sold by Amazon. They had wd red at $115 but not until late March.

I don't understand why these are so hard lately.... Kind of useless for any AI workflows

I bought 3 last month, 1 from Newegg $89 on sale, 2 from H&B for $99. All these merchants keep backordering, just need a few days of frequent checking.
Seagate 4T HDDs are easier to get than WD from my experience.

Can anyone predict what the future of HDs are gonna be? It really sucks today, like many many other things, and buying power is declining day by day!

It's not a demand issue for these drives. The supply is dwindling and the manufacturers are simply not making more of these consumer models because their factory output has been completely contracted out for datacenter components. WD says they're already fully booked for 2 years. These drives may never come back to market.

Brand New, dom January 2026. They go in and of stock. Seems like there's a fresh container hitting the market since Seagate direct finally has them available too, for now

dang, I just need 2 for my dead ones in the DS nas.. can the datacenters just spare 2? I've been looking at these since February and I keep missing when the containers arrive.
