Minisforum sold me a refurbished 795s7 32gb 2tb, it stopped working last month, they said I can get a replacement by shipping the defect one back to them on my cost. They took my unit for a month, told me it's non repairable, and told me that I can get a 5 year old $300 junk pc (11900hk, no ssd or memory) as a replacement because "they are comparable value". I refused, and they said there is nothing they can do and also won't return my original defective unit back.

I have written to my senator for a request of ban on minisforum. I hope you all do the same. Raise not only the long term shady practice, but also the national security concerns.

I have been building PCs and laptops from 1990s, and have never ever seen company being like this in China before I moved to Texas. This is a freaking world class joke. I have purchased hundreds if not thousands of PCs from all brands, and even GMKtec is doing better.

fark minisforum.

Thanks for the info. The only time I ordered from Minisforum the communication was horrible, I had no idea if my order was confirmed or shipped for weeks. I was tempted but your experience reminded me of my own experience awhile back, so I think it'll be smart to hold off.

I've been looking for a new home server I don't have to build and this seems way nicer than anything the same price point from the major players. I just am uncertain about Minisforum OS. I wish I could install Synology OS or something with a more established track record.

minisforum are a joke, I'm glad I only have 1 of their minipcs (back when there were only 3 minipc brands)
I would not voluntarily buy another 1 of their products. I've seen time and time again they treat their customers like trash, their warranties aren't worth anything.
Value-wise it's good but when things go wrong (and they will) their customer support is absolute cancer. Stay away my friends.

You can install any OS on that by formatting it. It is not in a ROM which you can't access but in a 128GB SSD which they ship the device with.

Senator?! National Security concerns?!!! Don't tell me, you wrote a scathing review on BBB too? Insert "Bender: Oh, you are serious. Let me laugh even harder. meme".
Honestly I've always laughed at the BBB but my wife has been unemployed for a few months and has the free time now to do things like complain to the BBB and she's 3 for 3 on stuff I had written off as lost that they got us refunds on. They're not as useless as I thought, assuming you can find the time to put the effort in.

I got an Acemagic a few months ago and the motherboard died during normal operations. It's not normal for that to happen, I've been using PC's for decades and this is the first time. It was a huge pain to get a refund, and support is not a thing. Maybe Minisforum is better but I will never buy an off brand device like this again.

I got a ugreen nas a year ago. I got a deal on a 4 bay Plus model for around $350. I installed Proxmox and its working great. You can install truenas, unraid, etc on any of these units.
The huge problem right now is ram and hdd pricing. add 32gb so you can run multiple VMs, LXCs and you are looking at $300-$400 extra. HDD prices are bonkers right now. $200+ for even small capacities. Get (5) and you are looking at 1k+ just in HDDs. I was waiting on harddrivedeals to have some deals when I bought mine a year ago and i've been waiting ever since. ended up using a few 4tb SSDs I had and (4) 1tb hard drives. At this point it'll likely be years until HDD and SSD prices get to a decent value proposition were data hoarding is worth it again.
