What's the difference between this roku streamer and the $10 Roku stick HD which Roku has a sale on?

Same player is $15.99 on roku. You might be getting a special deal. The 2025 HD Roku stick is pretty nice for 1080p TV's. I really liked how it knew my TV brand and set the power and volume buttons up automatically.

Same model 3840 with same features. The difference between the R or the S at the end nobody knows, there is a long thread on Reddit with no clear answer. Not everyone is eligible for the $10 price though, you must have a pre-existing Roku account and then go to the my offers section to see if you are eligible for the $10 promotion price.

Here is the link below with instructions for anyone looking to get this Roku stick for only $10 with free shipping...

I must say the powering it with the usb port on a tv is a nice touch. I got the 10 dollar deal, but this deal seems decent too

Yeah. I bought a standalone voice remote for an old Roku 4 and it works fine. I'd buy this for the remote if it were usb-c rechargeable, but it says batteries included. Currently using rechargeable lithium batteries, but it would be simpler to just plug the remote into my phone charger while on the couch.

Thanks for posting this OP Smilie .. I read a lot of reddit threads re: what was the best roku stick and got a lot of conflicting opinions over how "good" (expensive) a roku stick you need for a good streaming experience.. there were some reddit users who said a cheaper stick like this one works just fine for streaming and others who said no you need to go with a more expensive model like the Roku Streaming Stick 4K (not so much for the 4K but more so for other stuff I'll get into below)... some people said that a hdmi extender is necessary instead of just plugging the roku stick into the TV to help stop the roku from overheating to the point where there was performance lag, others said it wasn't necessary.. some people said plugging the usb cable that comes with the roku player into the TV usb port works just fine far as supplying the roku stick with the necessary power, others said no it's better to plug that usb port into any old not being used phone charger usb port (can't remember for the life of me if it's a usb c phone charger or usb A phone charger that's compatible) ...

Being the paranoid sort Smilie , during the November 2025 Black Friday sale I just went for the Roku Streaming Stick 4K to be on the safe side, which was selling for $25 at the time and I snagged a $7 HDMI cable extender to go with it which has been working out great with the roku stick. The 4K version comes with it's own power brick you can plug the usb cable into instead of plugging it into the TV (so the power brick plugs into an electrical outlet basically)... something I found a bit strange, roku says that the usb cable is also the wifi receiver for the roku stick so you can't just say swap out the usb cable with any old usb cable ... apparently the 4K version has the better wifi reception.

For all I know I wasted money unnecessarily and say the $10 with free shipping and handling cheapest roku stick (if the link freshsqueeze mentioned results in you being offered it at the $10 rate too, could be wrong but I'm guessing not all potential or current roku customers would get that price?) would have worked just fine for me too. I will say that my streaming experience has been great with this 4K version of the roku stick. Here's the HDMI extender I'm using

amazon.com/dp/B08GS22RMT?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_2

"VENTION HDMI Extension Cable" (currently selling for $8.59 on amazon) , ASIN number B08GS22RMT (so if the link above doesn't work you can just search by the asin number on amazon instead). Again I could be wrong and the roku stick would work just fine (not overheat) without the extension cable!

If you do grab a roku stick (whatever version you choose) keep an eye out for the roku specials around Black Friday far as streaming services.. Hidive was $1 a month for two months and in past years they've offered say for example HBO and Starz (nowadays the HBO deal will almost certainly be with ads however) for a few dollars a month for two months... Apple TV "free for 3 months for roku users" shows up as a deal periodically.. I'd go so far to say it's worth checking the deals and offers section of the roku account you'll create online each month even beyond Black Friday to see if there's some sort of streaming deal going on.. mind you independent of Roku, Nov 2025 Starz was offering 12 months for $12 and HBO was offering $3 a month (with ads) for 12 months (not sure but I think with HBO you got billed each month too so you didn't necessarily have to do it for the whole 12 months)... any excuse to drop Netflix and their higher prices for a month or two or three is a good excuse Smilie ..

I have Roku's and Onn. The Onn device has really impressed me. The layout and speed are both good.

Good deal. Similar deal now at Amazon: $16 and 10% cashback with Prime card. I got this mostly to have an extra remote. I also bought a Roku Streaming Stick Plus via Roku's website - only $15 for members, as listed on another SD thread:
https://slickdeals.net/f/19233742-roku-streaming-media-players-streaming-stick-plus-15-streaming-stick-10-more-free-s-h
The Plus does 4K (vs just HD) and has twice as much memory (1G vs 512MB).
All these recent Roku sales make me suspect they may have new devices coming out soon. Roku has been my go-to streaming device for many years. I thought this might be a good time to stock up on what works for me. Sometimes new doesn't necessarily mean better. I already prefer their old remotes to the newest ones.
