If you have a Sam's Club membership and their co-branded credit card with 5% back, you can get these down to $42.75 since their regular price for a $50 eShop GC is $45. Not worth buying a membership for, but obviously there are a lot of other things you can use it on

Thanks! Might be worth considering saving a few dollars if you planned on downloading Pokemon Leaf Green or Fire Red.

It's worth it regardless of what you buy. 12% discount on a day one game. An additional discount on a game that's already on sale. Whatever the case, you are saving money as long as you use it some day. I always top off my balance when these pop up.

Only a 12% discount if the game were $50, this is more like a 8-9% discount

Still better than 0 though

Technically true, but if you buy $100 (for an easy to see example), it only costs you $88. That's 12%. It's not like the money disappears if you don't spend it on a single game. It just stays in your account until you are ready to use it. I think I have about $160 in my account right now. It's great for when I want to buy a cheap $5-10 sale item on a whim.

I guess if your intention was to only buy that one new game and weren't willing to overfund your account by buying 2 cards, it would be less efficient.
