It looks like mine were at least activated, though. Warranty ends in December of 26.
The good were missing all the tips. As a new set costs more than the price difference, definitely not worth it. Return was a huge PITA. They questioned me why it was missing accessories and it took way longer to return than pick up.
Based on my experience, buy the excellent and save yourself the headache.
Recommendation: Buy an extra set of ear tips from an Apple Store (~$10) and thoroughly clean the AirPods (Alcohol swab works) before use.
