If you have a good Indian market, higher quality peas are often available for under $1/lb. I bought a few 4# bags of peas (along with bags of a few kinds of lentils, chickpeas, black chickpeas, and mixed pulses) for $3/ea (the other legumes ranged from $2.50 to $5 per 4# bag) last week at a Lotte market. Iberia are decent, but these are definitely better quality.
