Aren't these super loud? My heater is going out. This is going in a basement with a bedroom that backs up to the same wall so maybe too loud

I know they're not silent, and it will make the room colder as well. This could be an issue in the winter for any shared/nearby spaces.

I have one, or at least a similar model Rheem Performance Platinum (is what is says if that makes a difference). Had it 3 years, came with the house so not sure how old it is. No issues yet.

I've had one since 2022. If your alternative is a regular resistance electric heater, there's no downside to getting this. Best case it uses 1/4 of the electricity as a heat pump. Worst case, it uses resistive heating and is the exact same as a regular electric water heater.
They are louder, as it requires a fan to move the air and transfer heat. It cools and dehumidifies the surrounding area, but I use it in a northern climate and it's great (super beneficial in humid summer, but not too bad during dry winter). It's about 3-5 degrees colder in the 15x8 utility room if the door is shut. Maybe 1-2 degrees colder if the door is left open.
Setup requires a condensate drain line, but otherwise it uses the same hookups (30A 240V) as a regular electric water heater so it's super easy to install

You want fhe one without the leak detector as it will falsely shut down the unit.. I'm surprised menards gets these as they were a home depot carried brand. Menards normally carriers seconds or out of production stuff. Im sure the Menards lovers will come in bashing its the truth, take it or leave it.

I am getting one. Our gas heater is great but the cost just for service is $37.00 month - $444 a year not including the gas cost. In 2 year pays for itself. Electrical install not included - in my case right next to breaker box and ac drain.

Great tip (avoid leak detector model) and this is a great price; too bad I am not in Menard's area.

Seems like a steal of price. $1800 at Homedepot. Had mine close to six years now. Paid for itself in first two years with electric company rebate and federal tax credit. I see they finally figured out putting the water lines on the top like regular water heaters.

Installed this model DIY in May 2022 and it has been great on energy savings versus regular electric heater.
I have had to replace the thermistors 2x at this point though and all savings would have been lost if I was not able to do this work myself. All parts are free from Rheem for 10 years and their troubleshooting support is great so if you have a digital multimeter and are willing to watch some youtube videos this unit should be a good choice.
You can also just opt to not use the heat pump if anything goes wrong with that part of the heater.

Bought one 4 years ago, I have exceptionally hard water, I'm on my third unit as a result, but hopefully with a new water softener it'll last this time. Pros: They have excellent tech support/warranty, use a fraction of electricity of a regular coil water heater. Versus a regular water heater, at this price, it'll pay for itself in the first year or two. Cons: Slow recovery time on heat pump mode, they don't tell you, but replacing the anode rod is paramount to reliability, and it's kind of a pain. You also need to be willing to be a little handy and replace things like anode rods, or an occasional thermistor that dies and needs to be replaced (it's like a $10 sensor), calling out a plumber for that stuff would cost a fortune.
