Price looks good, but noticed one of the comments mentioned it only takes the bits that come with it. Trying to avoid ratcheting screwdrivers that don't take typical hex bits. But thanks for the post!

Odd, it looks like it would accept any standard 1/4" bits?

The information in the Slickdeals comment you found is incorrect for this specific model, though it is a very common (and valid) complaint about other Kobalt screwdrivers.

The item in your link and screenshot is the Kobalt 10-Piece Performance Series Magnetic Ratcheting Screwdriver (Item #5055542 / Model #52283).

The Fact Check: True or False?

* Verdict: False. This specific screwdriver does take typical 1/4-inch hex bits.

* The Confusion: Most people confuse this with the popular Kobalt 13-in-1 or the "Double Drive" models. Those models use proprietary double-ended bits with a ball-detent groove in the middle and no magnet at the tip. If you put a standard 1-inch bit in those, it will fall deep into the shaft and get stuck.

* Why this model is different: This "Performance" series model features a magnetic receiver at the tip. Because it is magnetic and uses a standard 1/4" hex opening, you can pull out the included long double-ended bits and swap them for any standard 1-inch or 2-inch hex bits from brands like Milwaukee, DeWalt, or Makita.

Technical Breakdown
* Bit Type: It comes with three 2-inch double-ended bits and three nut driver bits. All of these use a standard 1/4-inch hex shank.

* Magnetic Tip: Unlike the older "tube" style multi-drivers (like the Klein 11-in-1 style), this tool has a magnetized tip. This allows it to hold short, standard 1-inch "insert" bits without them falling into the shaft.

* Bit Storage: A key way to identify this model is the on-board storage on the shaft. The bits clip into the outside of the chrome shaft. This design choice is almost always used on drivers that have a standard magnetic tip, whereas proprietary drivers store bits inside the handle or in nested tubes.

Summary for your Purchase
If you are looking for a ratcheting screwdriver that is compatible with the bits you already own, this is one of the few Kobalt models that actually fits that criteria. You can ignore the comment on the deal site; that user is likely thinking of the blue-handled "Double Drive" or "13-in-1" versions which are notorious for their proprietary bit requirements.

Pro-Tip: If you ever find that a standard 1-inch bit sits a little too deep for your liking in this handle, you can simply drop a small 1/4" magnetic bit extender into the tip, but for this specific "Performance" model, it isn't necessary.

Kobalt - 10 -Piece 4-in Magnetic Ratcheting Multi-Bit Replaced Screwdriver Set

Dead and Yikes! what the hell are they thinking with that kind of pricing? This scam of pover pricing then discounting back to normal has got to end. $10 2 liter coke discounted to $3 when it should be $1.50. Getting tired of it.
