Computers don't come with cd/dvd drives no more. So, you need this thing to view your Radiology images, cause hospitals still burn Radiology pics on CDs/DVDs for some reason.

YES! My doctor's office won't go on the internet and turned away my flash drive.

They probably have usb drives blocked on the pc for security reasons. But yes, I find it annoying to use cds. I have an external CD drive at work for this purpose. Luckily at home I have a pc that still has the CD drive in it

This has the older, slower USB 2.0 interface.

An 8X DVD drive transfers data at 10.8 MB/s below USB2 so it'll work fine

The slow response time should not matter as nothing that requires speed is provided on CD.

If you have stuff mailed to you from the Social Security Administration it will often come on CD/DVD.

They do it for privacy reasons...so your medical records dont wind up on the internet. If they do, an enterprising lawyer will get funded by some investment group to sue the heck out of said hospital/office via a class action suit and make millions.
