- San Dimas, California, teens Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are dangerously close to flunking their high school history class. Luckily, they get some unexpected help from Rufus (George Carlin), a man from the future who gives the guys a time-travelling phone booth that allows them to meet such historical luminaries as Abraham Lincoln, Billy the Kid, Joan of Arc, Napoleon, and more.

It was a nice escape during COVID
Let's keep in mind that the plot of the original movie is that humanity formed a utopian society based on the music of two high school numbskulls, and that this future society needed to use time travel to get them to pass their history test so that their band would form. And that's way less ridiculous than the plot of the second movie.
