I bought this series on a whim years ago, having never seen a single episodes, and I was very pleasantly surprised. It has great scripts and outstanding acting from lead Roy Thinnes and a steady stream of relatively unknown but recognizable and very talented supporting actors.

I agree on both counts; the video quality is the weak link in the chain here. It's acceptable, but not much more.
