One runs a full on giant OS with wide app compatibility. One is a specific limited set of functions. It's not entirely equivalent. Also for passive tracking of health trends, Apple is better. Garmin is better for actual workout tracking accuracy.

I can't comment on other brands but my AW10 caught my a fib and flutter. I had a cardiac ablation in May and everything is fixed, all because of the watch.
