You are very right. I checked, even if you bought at MicroCenter. Just the NVIDIA 5080 GPU and CPU/MB/RAM bundle are $2300.
That leaves out the NVME, PSU, Case, cooling system, and Windows license.
What an awful time to be in the market.

That misfit of parts can do things that are not even remotely possible on any console.

They might have different batches at Costco, the PC on display had an MSI SSD drive but that's not what I got, here's the specs I got in Los Angeles area. Picked it up today:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X (12-core, 5.6GHz boost)
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G SHADOW 3X OC (16GB GDDR7)
Motherboard: MSI PRO B840-VC WIFI (AMD B840, AM5)
RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) TeamGroup T-Force DDR5 6000MHz
Storage: 2TB TeamGroup T-Force G50 Graphene NVMe Gen4
CPU Cooler: MSI 360mm AIO Liquid Cooler
PSU: 850W 80+ Gold
WiFi: Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.4 (shark fin antenna)
OS: Windows 11 Home
Case: MSI Aegis ZS2 (3x 120mm RGB front fans)
Includes: MSI mechanical keyboard and mouse, SATA cables, EZ M.2 clip tool
Assembled in USA, MFG January 2026
Costco 2-year warranty + 90-day return

Heads up for anyone getting this — the RAM ships running at JEDEC default 4800 MT/s, NOT the advertised DDR5 6000. You need to go into BIOS and enable EXPO to get your full memory speed.
How to fix it:
Restart and mash Delete to enter BIOS
In EZ Mode, find the Memory section and switch from "Standard" to "EXPO1"
While you're in there, verify Re-Size BAR is enabled (mine was already on — Advanced F7 → PCIe Subsystem Settings)
F10 to save and exit
Confirm in Task Manager → Performance → Memory that it now shows 6000 MT/s
This is standard for all motherboards (they ship at safe defaults), but figured some people might not know they're leaving free performance on the table. Takes 30 seconds in BIOS.

Regular price you might build it for cheaper but not at that price.

This used to be original sales price before the ram shortage. Solid deal I have it and love it.

This was $500 off last Black Friday/Christmas 2025 for $2k, and with the current ram shortage pricing, it's still a great deal! Machine screams, will play anything, and is quiet. Def buy. Also, if you bought within past 30-days, don't forget Costco's price match adjustment option.

Bought the ROG G700 with a 5070 ti and Ultra 9 for 2K from Costco at the start of January, but I may give this a try this (have a month left to return the ROG). The 5070 ti manages 4k, but I always wanted a 5080. And yeah, I hesitated on getting it when it was only 2.1k...

How's the 9900x chip? I only see people rant and rave about the 9800x3d one for gaming

At 4k you won't see the difference in a 9800x3d. All those review benchmarks are done aft 1080 so the cpu has to flex, but at 4k you'll be gpu limited so it eliminates most of the x3d gains

I built my gaming PC last year around this time and I have to say this is a pretty good deal. This is probably the best price you can get for a 5080 build even if you bought the parts on sale.

I'm just going to give up on this gen and wait for the 6xxx series to come out in like 2-3 years at this point.
