I think there are two important issues: whether T-Mobile works well in your area and whether you need a lot of help from customer service. For people with solid T-Mobile service who don't have any problems setting up their line, they have no complaints. And then there are user errors like people who don't realize that they have to actively cancel the line to stop it from auto-renewing.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Tello. And I'm sure you know, there are many, many people who also complain about Visible and their lack of customer service. So sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.
I think these types of people are constantly bouncing around with cellphone plans. So they need to port their number over, every time they do it. Which causes friction points since they need to clog up the customer service line to transfer their number. Most normal people get a cellphone plan and stay on it for years. These people are cellphone nomads. They are not normal.

Lol, I have quite the opposite experience of what you are saying. Have been using it for over a year now. Switched from tmobile postpaid and it's been solid and don't miss them at all except some shitty Tuesday deals.

I've had them for two months now, I also have Verizon unlimited on my other eSim. I live in a city but all of the surrounding area is mountains. I usually get better reception with Tellos Tmo towers than Verizon. If both are full bars of course Verizon is faster, but its also 5x more expensive.
I havent had an issue with customer service yet, they were able to assist when i thought i lost my promotional pricing.

I wish I had jumped on the previous offer of $10/month for 6 months but I'm a lazy procrastinating . Secretly hoping it will return.

What are you trying to accomplish? In the past, I was able to get customer service to move a Tello line from one account to another. I told them I wanted two lines in the family in the same account to manage them easier, but in reality, I had used up all the Tello Dollars in one account and wanted to start using the Tello Dollars from the other.

If you are trying to take advantage of a new line/new customer promotion, you have to port to a different carrier then port back. I'm not sure how long the number needs to be away from Tello. It used to be just a couple of days, but they may have tightened that up.

I'm porting FROM tello to another carrier, what carrier do I choose for Tello in the carrier "port-from" selection?

If Tello is not a listed option, I would just put OTHER.

Comment/complaint from a low data user.
I've been using Tello for about 2 years enjoying the $6 and $7 custom plans (1 GB 100 mins/2 GB 100 mins). Ten days ago, I received the following message from them:
"Your current Tello plan for +1 (6##) ### 4### is being retired, but you can continue enjoying it as long as you keep it active. If you ever decide to cancel or switch to a different plan, please note that your current plan will no longer be available for purchase again."
I looked online and saw that the cheapest plan was now the $8 (2 GB 300mins) plan and thought, "I will just keep renewing my grandfathered plan". Well, today is the day before my plan auto-renews and I discovered a subtle issue with keeping the grandfathered plan. If I renew the plan before it auto-renews then you MUST switch to one of their current plans.😵
Why would I renew before the auto-renew? In order to roll-over any unused data/minutes to the next month. In my experience, if I allow auto-renewal, my unused data and minutes do NOT rollover. It looks like I am going to have to move to give up my grandfathered plan or just start auto-renewing. 🥺

You are correct that if you autorenew, the balance resets every month. So your choices are $6/month and lose whatever balances you have accrued. Or $8/month and keep rolling minutes and data. If you switch to the $8, you don't have to alternate with a different plan to roll -- you can just select the same plan each month. It's an unfortunate change, but I am still sticking with Tello.
