It's a rhetorical question. It was a commentary on how wasteful this is, especially given how these LEDs to never seem to reach the advertised lifepan.

Obviously you can keep using the mirror afterwards, but then you'd need to buy a separate light. So why not just start with a standard mirror and a separate light?
