For those unsure, this is essentially a pair of 27" WQHD (1440p, 16:9) monitors stuck together. If your priority is something like pixels/$ and basic productivity, then this is a bad value. But if your priority is gaming or other media consumption, then this might be a good purchase.

I got the MSI OLED at Sam's Club which notably has a lower refresh rate (bad) but also a lower pixel response time (good), but generally I love the 49" UW, I can have 3 windows/apps side by side by side and all of them are very useable

Edit: I should also mention on sale it is the same price as this

Another edit: When I see tear free gaming, I think tear as in crying instead of tear as in ripping

Do these ultra wide monitors support split screens?

Like divvying up the space for 3 input sources at the same time? 1/3 Roku input, 1/3 pc desktop, 1/3 laptop input ?

Not that I know of. It would be one thing with software within the OS to split 3 different screens/apps, but not 3 diff inputs

Some do. Can't find details if this one does, but I have an Asus 49 inch ultra wide that does "pbp" which is picture by picture mode.

Historically, yes. About 7 mo ago, Costco had a Samsung 49" 5120x1440 OLED 144Hz for $600.

In Dec 2024, there was a deal on the same monitor for just under $500. It was via the Samsung website, pretty time limited, and required a few hoops to jump through (ID.me discount, Capital One discount, chatting with a rep for extra discount).

I avoid VA monitors like the plague due to ghosting, though maybe it isn't as much of an issue if the monitor is 240 Hz?

Most support 2 screen in either dual 16:9 or 21:9 and 11:9

I use a Samsung 49" at home that will allow two inputs, both from the same device or different ones. My 45" LG Ultragear I use at the office does the same.

While I don't always run the two-input mode from the same computer, if you present a lot in PowerPoint and want presenter mode to work properly, you need to run two video outputs from the same PC to the single monitor and set it to multi-input mode. Not sure why MS still has such a shitty PowerPoint implementation on Ultrawide Monitors, but they do.
