That price was over seven years ago. A lot has changed since then, primarily inflation and the cost of goods post-COVID.

When you calculate for inflation, $250 in December 2018 is roughly $320 today. The cost of these cans today would be akin to buying them for $210 back in 2018.

Imagine buying these back in 1997 for $450.

So these are good for neutral sound, basically you're hearing how they made the music in the studio, very near that sound profile.

Bose are good but they do colour the sound.

I have these and they are really nice. The head foam on top is really comfortable and also the ear pads that come w/ it are super soft. Audio is superb.

The only negative is the audio cord coming out of both sides is kinda annoying. Especially the default audio cable. It sometimes feels too short up top and I find myself accidentally yanking the cord once in awhile. You can order 3rd party replacement cords tho. So helps, but just dont think the design is the best. I prefer headphones where the audio cable only needs to plug and connect on one side of your ear. Over all tho, for this price range these are one of the best headphones you can get...after this price point it can get pretty crazy w/ whats out there.

I prefer the XS for sound, but the comfort is very poor. I kept my Sennheisers and upgraded the XS to the HE-1000 Stealth.
