Why in the world would someone purchase this? Please help me understand.
Because it is a low-cost portable that has a vertical screen aspect ratio designed to better accommodate Nintendo DS dual screen emulation, or presumably classic vertical arcade games, which are often difficult to play on 4:3, 1:1, or 16:9 screens common to other devices.

My guess would be anyone that might want to emulate a Nintendo DS/3DS just like the title of the thread mentions.

I like the idea of this (essentially like a 2DS-style brick) but in pursuit of making it pocketable, the screen size for each screen when emulating DS is pretty small. Just pointing that out for SD's primary demographic...
If that isn't an issue then it's a pretty solid value in the current market.

DS games and vertical shooters. Niche use case but if that is your niche, there is little (to nothing) else which fills it with a single screen.

What do you think is SD's primary demographic? Just curious, I have no idea to be honest. Seems like a pretty wide mix of mid 20's to late 60's. Just my guess but those seeking "retro" handhelds, especially with nostalgia for the NDS, are likely to be mid to late 30's being they were likely born in the early 90's.

Well I for one love shooters aka shmups. Many good ones run in Tate mode which is vertical and this looks like it would be perfect for that!
