Highly recommend the RH40XXH. Great ergonomics, big screen, ton of custom firmware options. If you want to catch up on SNES and PS1 stuff, it's perfect.

Had the Flip, it was fine. Didn't find myself using it much. I thought I'd carry it with me and use it instead of scrolling on my phone while out and about, but was too self conscious as a 40 year old man to be seen with a Gameboy. Vanity I guess.

Haven't tried the RG35XX

Common knowledge the microsd cards they give ya are crap. Generic ones that need to be replaced. Hard to tell if roms included as well. Best bet would be to download the rom packs from pirate Bay.

I'm tempted to get the Flip V2 and see if the one that arrives has the modified hinge. Free returns within 90 days, so may be worth trying.

At least older manufacturing dates of the Flip V2 have a lot of reports of the hinges breaking, and supposedly a V3 is in the works with another hinge update.

These are all great starter devices! The flip might get you some dreamcast play but be wary of the hinge.

The RG CubeXX is another great device. 1:1 720x720 display.

STAY AWAY from the RG35XXH !! Had two of them and they both had the SAME identical issues and Anbernic had been ZERO help in getting them replaced or responding at all to my emails!! The cards are junk and fail immediately, and most of the time when you want to play the POS you have to remove the battery and plug it back in every time. Tried getting Anbernic to replace them as I have spent more time trying to get them working than what I have been playing then, but they are radio silent on my emails! Dont know about the other models, but I dont trust Anbernic or their customer service anymore to try them. I have two paperweights right now that each of them has less than a half hour play time on them!

I know market dynamics change everything, but the 35xx has been as low as $25.xx less than half a year ago. May be worth holding out if your need isn't immediate.

I would suggest waiting for a 5" screen. Both of these Ambernics are too small, imo.

I am a fan of the Anbernic RG40XX V as I got this clamshell style protector that protects the screen. It has the benefits of the GBA SP style case, but a much more comfortable and yet still portable shape.

It sounds like the hinge is very unreliable on the Flip, even with this one that is supposed to be improved over v1, but this is a tempting price to gamble with. I don't like the form factor of the RG35XXSP (much bigger than the original SP) and most people say the buttons suck.
