The case is cool. The headphones look cooler, too. Audio quality on calls is better, along with microphone.
Using them on counterstrike rn and i think they're better too. But, what do i know.
when using the in audio mic in counterstrike, i don't get the touch of lag i used to get with the XM4s
Unfortunately, I was overly optimistic. First, enabling LE Audio in Windows is only possible in rare circumstances where the OEM provided driver indicates LE Audio support, even if the underlying chipset is rated for Bluetooth 5.2+. Secondly, even if your computer supports it or you buy a secondary dongle, the audio quality still drops terribly when the mic is active.
I will spare all the details but check out the Reddit thread "WH-1000XM6 via LC3 - a limited experience for gaming" for more of a breakdown.
Overall, I found nothing in the Sony WH-1000XM6's to be a worthwhile upgrade without working LE Audio and returned them. I'll continue with my Sony WH-1000XM5's (and an external mic for gaming) for the foreseeable future.
The idea of slapping a modmic to a $350 (retail) pair of headphones seems bananas
I think you have to supply a phone num. I use google voice as a masked number in case info gets sold.

Is it worth the upgrade? I don't think so unless you can sell your xm5 (before the hinges break) unless you listen to them size by side you won't notice how much more clear and less muddy the xm6 are. In my opinion the xm5 are way more loose fitting and comfortable for long listens. The xm6 get my ears hot pretty quickly cause of the tighter fit.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 offers a significant upgrade over the XM4 in several key areas (25:56-26:01).
Here's a breakdown of the improvements:
Comfort: The XM6 is slightly heavier than the XM4 (1:56-1:58) but features an improved, wider headband that distributes weight more evenly, reducing pinpoint pressure on the top of the head (2:16-2:24). The XM6 is also considered one of the lightest headphones in its class (1:58-2:00). While the XM4 is initially comfier, the XM6's comfort is expected to improve as the clamping force loosens over time (3:32-3:52).
Design and Portability: The XM6 boasts a much improved foldable and collapsible design, making it more compact than previous generations, including the XM4 (4:11-4:15). It also comes with a nice magnetic hard shell case (4:17-4:19).
Build Quality: The hinge issue, common in the XM5 (and implicitly, older models like the XM4 if they share similar design weaknesses), has been improved in the XM6 with the insertion of aluminum and a more flexible design (5:17-5:56).
Sound Quality: The XM6 provides a clearer and more detailed sound compared to the XM4, especially after EQ (13:14-13:22). The XM6 is described as having a more impressive bass that fills out the entire frequency range (15:30-15:34).
Noise Cancelling: The noise cancelling on the XM6 is an incremental improvement (about 10% better) over previous world-class active noise cancelling headphones like the XM5 (7:22-7:39). While not a "night and day" difference, it makes the XM6 a safe choice for noise cancelling (7:50-7:58).
Overall Value: The reviewer personally recommends upgrading from the XM4 to the XM6 due to the leap in sound quality and improved comfort (24:56-25:10).
