Sounds like they've taken an old MacBook Air chassis and thrown the motherboard of an iPhone 16 Pro into it.
The A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro has newer features and instruction sets than the M1 in the old MacBook Air, and it has better power management. They kept the old camera, old screen, and gave a downgraded speaker and batteries compared to the new MacBook Air M5. $599 seems like the right price, since you should be comparing it to an old M1 MacBook Air.
