Me personally i would just get a lightly used m4 for only a little bit more. Especially with m5 out u can find a lot of good deals on used m4. Better design more ram faster ect

Apple finally admitted that 8GB RAM is not enough no matter how optimized macOS is and released the base model Mac Mini M4 with 16 GB of RAM.
Now they're backtracking that stance due to the recent DRAM price hikes. 😂
This uses an iPhone processor.

Windows users coming into Macbook threads talking about Pc. Are they stupid?

Macs are PCs.
I use Arch BTW.

Being an Apple fan doesn't mean you have to appreciate every product they release, and true Apple fans are often critical when Apple rolls out a subpar product.

And? Some iPhones comes with 12 GB of RAM.
Besides, macOS and iOS have very different memory management mechanisms.

Exactly, there are way better deals on laptops which are way more powerful than this junk and have better features. Though I think it is about paying a premium for using macOS.

What do you think...A is obviously far weaker than M.
Not really - it's almost the equivalent of an M1 at half the power https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...8-3200-MHz

I love Apple sticking their necks out with low end hardware. Make the systems work with 8GB, or the huge base of nascent users with these machines will learn instinctively that Apple hardware just doesn't work very well.

I'll also say that Windows does fine on 8GB of RAM, and I've been led to believe that Apple devices are somewhat less hungry for RAM. Maybe I'm just using the wrong websites, but the need for >8GB RAM is overstated.

for everyday non power use this will fit the bill. this will make a good school laptop. 16gb m2 air will cost 600+, with warranty concerns. i would stay away from m1 macbook airs, as mine suffered the common USB chip failure due to a ground short, which is a pain in the ASS to fix and requires a scope to solder and luckily allows for me to charge but no data anymore. if you want a cheap macbook this covers everything except for people who will go out of their way to source a used machine. The single core performance of this A chip is also very good, which will matter more than multi core performance for say opening applications quickly. The ram pushes it for me, as i could press that CPU more but you are kind of RAM bound before processing bound as a lofty generalized statement. macos is good at managing resources, much better than windows. It will be the highest quality new $500 dollar laptop you can buy and if performance isnt your first goal the upgraded mouthfeel of the trackpad and generally very good keyboards are a real bonus outside the OS being well regarded and still well rounded. even their crappy displays are gonna be very good, way better than a value HP. My 2020 air still has a decent looking display. Hell the 2017 5th gen ipad i use as an alarm clock on my nightstand still has a pretty good display compared to some other stuff. macos26 is kinda wonky in some areas, but still preferable to windows for me though i can make do on any os.

MSRP is $599. This is $499 for students/teachers.
edit: getting downvoted Big Grin
The education discount is a permanent program that Apple has run for years, not a sale. It's MSRP for students/teachers.

Then downvote if you wish, but saving shoppers 16% on a new item is my goal here

No one criticizes Apple harder than Apple enthusiasts. If anyone doesn't believe me spend some time on MacRumors forums.
