The touchid to me makes it a no brainer, unless you have an apple watch already and use that for unlock the ability to use touchid is so so nice.

I still have a Macbook Air from 2012 that still works PERFECTLY (after swapping out for a new battery in 2020). Crazy thing? I can still sell it for 100 bucks no problem.
All the windows laptops ive had between then and now? in the trash.
also, are you really comparing an intel chip to Apple Silicon? they're not even in the same league.
Look, when a school needs to buy these in bulk they're not going to shop around for a lightly used m4 in bulk. With apple care too, these make a great entry point for literal kids or even parents.
Everyone is complaining about 8gb of ram, but my parents are using a 120gb ssd sata2, 8gb system with an i3 2120 and can literally do everything they need. Many people literally just go to youtube or browse the internet. Swap is fast on a traditional macbook machine compared to a windows machine too. And if you're swapping that much that it'll kill your SSD, then you were never the target audience for this laptop.
