This 13 inch flat bottom wok is aimed at quick stir frying, and the bundle adds a glass lid, spatula, and cleaning whisk. The strongest praise centers on the nitrided style finish, which is described as more nonstick out of the box than a well seasoned pan and able to handle metal utensils. The main concern is that the surface may actually be a chemical nonstick coating, with reports of peeling and confusion over whether it is truly pre seasoned carbon steel. Pricing also looks inconsistent, since the advertised $20 can jump to $39 at checkout. A low cost wok option, but the finish deserves a close look.

Common Questions (5)

  • The listing says carbon steel and "nitride treated," but the photos and several reviews suggest a chemical nonstick coating instead of a bare, seasonable carbon-steel surface. That matters because a real carbon-steel wok needs oil seasoning and rust prevention, while a coated pan behaves like conventional nonstick.

  • Yes. A real pre-seasoned carbon-steel wok can be used right away, but it still needs oil after cleaning and should not be left wet, or it can rust; some residue can be wiped off without soap, then the wok can be reheated and re-seasoned.

  • A coated nonstick surface can peel or wear out, and one concern raised is that it may be Teflon-like rather than true carbon steel seasoning. By contrast, actual seasoned carbon steel can be re-oiled and re-seasoned repeatedly to restore its nonstick behavior.

  • It can work, but not reliably. One checkout attempt on the $39.99 glass-lid version returned an error, while another report says the code still applies after a couple of tries.

  • Flat-bottom woks are often on the heavier side, with lighter pro-style flat-bottom options being rare and usually much more expensive. That makes this style less ideal if you want a thin, lightweight wok for tossing food.

2.6 KGS.

May as well cancel your gym membership to buy this.
Unfortunately all of the flat bottom woks seem to be on the heavier side, except for the very expensive Japanese Yamada Uchidashi ones.
I definitely prefer the thinner/lighter pro style woks but I haven't been able to find any that are flat bottom except for the Yamada and I don't feel like paying the premium.

A carbon steel in name only. Just another cheap teflon pan marketed with words that are designed to appeal to people who buy $20 pans.
While the pan material may be carbon steel, its interior is non-stick teflon (the rubber spatula is a giveaway here).
True carbon steel unfinished pans will last forever and are prized by restaurants. They can be re-seasoned over and over to maintain their nonstick properties.
This has a coating of plastic glued to the metal surface. As you use it this plastic will flake off until you're left with a coating of cement inside your pan that is neither healthy or nonstick. Then you'll donate the pan and it'll end up on a shelf at a Goodwill.
Probably super thin also, so not going to be good for wok cooking. Get used to steamed mush, (not 'wok-hei') which is what this will do to your food.

Very similar wok sold in Aldi recently. It looked and felt similar to Teflon. Carbon steel is just the inner metal. These have a chemical non stick coating.
The one from Aldi is carbon steel and can be seasoned. It's also 14.99
